Dark Blue (Ron Shelton, 2002)

I watched Dark Blue simply because I’d been meaning to for a while and because I’d seen Ron Shelton’s White Men Can’t Jump a couple of days earlier, but it turned out to be a freakily timely watch. When the BLM protests started this year and lists of films about police violence started making the rounds, I was wondering what were some films that didn’t centre so much on the experience of Black people at the hands of police, but rather on the role of white people, and of cops especially, in that dynamic. This appears to be one of these films.
